Alkalinity, referred to as the pH, is determined by the concentration of Hydrogen ions in a substance such as water, blood or food. On a scale from 1 - 14, a pH level of 7.0 is considered neutral, 7.0 downwards is increasingly acidic and upwards of 7.0 is increasingly alkaline.
How do we get alkaline and why should we care? We can get alkaline by eating certain types of food and by eating according to our blood type. We can also become more alkaline by drinking alkaline water, such as Ionized Alkaline water or with lemon or coral calcium. The equilibrium in the body is imperative for good health. The body’s basic pH balance of acid and alkalinity must be maintained. Edgar Cayce, the sleeping prophet, was one of the first to let us know that disease cannot live in true alkalinity. He spoke of using lemon water to turn the body alkaline. He taught that when the body is alkaline, colds and flus and mucus cannot survive. We now know that an alkaline lifestyle prevents many diseases. Small chemical fluctuation in any one of the number of body fluids or functions may have strong implications toward health or illness. For example a certain change in only of few degrees of body heat can cause severe sickness or even death, if we don’t take care of it. Similarly pH equilibrium is vitally important. Proper pH balance has been identified by biochemists and medical physiologists as a most important aspect of a balanced healthy body. A pH of 7.365 is considered desirable for the human blood. A drop in blood pH level to a reading of 6.95 can lead to serious health risks, such as coma or death. As the sayings go prevention is better than cure and you are what you eat. The futurist and inventor Thomas Edison said over 100 years ago, “Doctors of the future will prescribe no medicines, but will prescribe food and will interest their patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.” It is best to eat a variety of foods and rotate your selections so that you can halt any reaction to specific foods. Water is very important to help flush wastes and toxins out of our body You should drink at least 8 -10 oz glasses of purified or microwater each day. If you don’t feel that you can drink that much plain water everyday, green tea or herbal teas will give you variety plus an excellent source of even more antioxidants. Avoid carbonated drinks.
